As someone who has been a manager of people for most of my career, I know how difficult it is for managers to start a conversation with someone struggling. Whilst in the world of mental health and wellbeing, we have done lots of work de-stigmatising mental illness, often what managers will be dealing with, will not be a diagnosed mental illness in a team member, but life and work struggles (grief, relationship issues, work overload) which can cause mental distress for any of us at any time.
As managers, we worry about
- Being intrusive
- Making the situation worse
- Not knowing what to say
- Landing up in a tribunal by doing/saying the wrong thing.
The course we run for managers was the first we wrote – with an HR Employment Lawyer – when we started the business five years ago. It has gone through many iterations since then and our feedback average is 4.58 out of 5 of which 100% would recommend the course to a colleague. At the end of the course we provide a short summary for participants which you can download here.
If you would like an outline of the course please get in touch!
